Privacy Policy

Trippy ("we", "us") builds a travel-journaling app that turns your photo library into a map of where you've traveled. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it. We designed Trippy to keep your data private by default.

Information you provide

• Account.You sign in with Apple or Google. From Sign in with Apple we receive a unique Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and email (or Apple's private relay address). From Google sign-in we receive your basic profile — your name, email address, and Google account identifier. We never receive your Apple or Google password.
• Profile. A display name, username, optional avatar, and your home country if you set one.
• Trips and places. The countries, states, cities, trips, routes, and bucket-list destinations you create or confirm.

Photo metadata

With your permission, Trippy reads the time and location metadata attached to photos in your library to detect trips automatically. We process this metadata to group photos into stays and suggested trips. Key points:

• We do not upload the photos in your library — the automatic trip detection works with the location and timestamp metadata only.
• Suggested trips are never added to your account until you confirm them.
• You can revoke photo access at any time in iOS Settings.

Profile photo

If you set a profile photo — by taking one with the camera or choosing one from your photo library — that image is uploaded and stored as your avatar so it can appear on your profile and, depending on your sharing settings, to friends. This is separate from the on-device trip detection described above, which does not upload your photos. You can change or remove your profile photo at any time in the app, and you can revoke camera or photo access in iOS Settings.

Device location

Trippy includes optional location features. If you turn on Auto Trips, Trippy uses low-power Apple location signals (such as visit and significant-location detection) to recognize the places you stop and to estimate the routes you travel, so trips can appear without manual logging. This is off until you enable it, and enabling it prompts iOS for location permission — including "Always" access so detection can continue while the app is in the background. Key points:

• Location features are opt-in. Trippy does not collect device location unless you enable a feature that needs it.
• Raw location readings are kept on your device and are deleted after 7 days. We use them only to build your own trip and route history.
• Estimated routes are private to you and are never shared with friends.
• We do not use your location for advertising or sell it, and Trippy does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings.

How we use your information

• To build and display your globe, trips, and travel history.
• To detect and suggest trips from your photo metadata.
• To power social features such as friends and shared trips that you opt into.
• To manage Trippy Pro subscriptions and unlock paid features. Payments are processed by Apple; we receive subscription status (for example, whether Pro is active) through our subscription provider, RevenueCat, but not your payment card details.
• To operate, secure, and improve the app.

Sharing and visibility

Every trip has a visibility setting you control in the app — private (only you), friends(people you've added and who have accepted), or public(anyone on Trippy). New trips default to friends, so they appear in your friends' activity but not to the wider public unless you choose to make them public. You can change any trip's visibility at any time when you create or edit it. Automatically detected trips stay private until you confirm them. We do not sell your personal information.

Data storage

Your account and travel data are stored securely with our infrastructure provider (Supabase). Access is protected by row-level security so that you can only read and write your own data and content explicitly shared with you.

Your choices

• Revoke photo or location permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
• Edit or delete individual trips, visits, and bucket-list items in the app.
• Delete your account and associated data at any time from within the app, under Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and the trips, visits, routes, friendships, and other data linked to it. You can also email privacy@trippy.social if you need help.

Children

Trippy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "last updated" date.
